Emily Miller Bond

composer for movies and TV

Biography

Emily Miller Bond is a composer living in Boulder, Colorado, who writes contemporary classical music.

Her background/training is classical piano, and she has always felt a deep fascination for composing. She has studied the works of composers throughout her life and believes there is the possibility for a music which is as finely nuanced as the classics, which speaks to the modern ear, and yet is accessible.

Her music has been described as engendering a strong visual image, and creating a compelling sense of mood and place. While she loves all types of music, she became deeply inspired to write fine film score music after hearing the beautiful modal chord changes and orchestrations of Howard Shore in "Lord of the Rings." She has also felt a strong affinity for the modal music of Ralph Vaughn-Williams, the piano music of Erik Satie, the film scores of Bernard Hermann and many other fine film composers.

She loves exploring the infinite possibilities for modulations with modal harmonies on a well-tempered scale, but can also write in many other styles.

She draws her inspiration from working collaboratively with filmmakers, and derives great satisfaction in making scenes come to life by setting the mood with music.
